Lexington firms, projects among winners
of state landscape architectural award

From Staff Reports

The Kentucky Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) announced the recipients of the Society’s 2011 Honors Thursday, which included several Lexington-based firms and projects.

The purpose of the Awards Program is to recognize excellence in the profession of Landscape Architecture in the Commonwealth of Kentucky; to provide a forum for the review, and evaluation of work currently shaping our environment; and to highlight achievements in landscape architecture in the Commonwealth to wide audiences.

The awards program is open to individuals or groups practicing landscape architecture in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This year, a jury from a chapter in Illinois critiqued the Kentucky submissions.

The panel of six jurors, with experience levels ranging from 5 to 36 years, judged the submissions based on quality of design, functional success, environmental responsibility, and responsiveness to client’s needs.

Each submission was entered into a specific category and the entrant was tasked with conveying the projects specific qualities and attributes through graphics and text.

The Honors represent the highest awards the Kentucky ASLA Chapter presents bi-annually.

Presentation boards of project award recipients will be on display at the Urban Design Studio, 507 S.Third St., Louisville, beginning August 5.
