Remembering Kentucky’s fallen heroes

Below is a list of Kentucky service members who lost their lives in the War on Terrorism. Names are in order by date of loss as of May 10, 2012.
 

1. Sergeant Darrin K. Potter, 24, of Louisville. He was killed on Sept. 29, 2003 near Abu Ghraib Prison, Iraq when his vehicle left the road and went into a canal. Potter was assigned to the 223rd Military Police Company, Kentucky Army National Guard, Louisville, Kentucky.
 

2. Specialist James E. Powell, 26, of Radcliff. He was killed on Oct. 12, 2003 in Baji, Iraq. Powell was killed when his M2/A2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle struck an enemy anti-tank mine. He died as a result of his injuries. Powell was assigned to the Army’s B Company, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, based in Fort Hood, Texas.
 

3. Sergeant Michael D. Acklin II, 25, of Louisville. He was killed on Nov. 15 2003 when two 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters crashed in Mosul, Iraq. Acklin was assigned to the Army’s 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
 

4. Corporal Gary B. Coleman, 24, of Pikeville. He was killed on Nov. 21, 2003 in Balad, Iraq. Coleman was on patrol when the vehicle he was driving flipped over into a canal trapping him inside the vehicle. Coleman was assigned to the Army’s B Company, 1st Battalion, 68th Armored Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division (Mech), based in Fort Carson, Colorado.
 

5. Sergeant First Class James T. Hoffman, 41, of Whitesburg. He was killed on Jan. 27, 2004 in an improvised explosive device attack in Khalidiyah, just east of Ar Ramadi, Iraq. Hoffman was assigned to the Army’s Company B, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (Mech), Fort Riley, Kansas.
 

6. Specialist Justin A. Scott, 22, of Bellevue. He was killed on Jan. 29, 2004 west of Ghazni, Afghanistan when an explosion occurred while he and others were working around a weapons cache. Scott was assigned to the Army’s 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum, New York.
 

7. Second Lieutenant Jeffrey C. Graham, 24, of Elizabethtown. He was killed on Feb. 19, 2004 in Khalidiyah, Iraq by small arms fire and an improvised explosive device attack. Graham was assigned to the Army’s Company C, 1st Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, Fort Riley, Kansas.
 

8. Staff Sergeant Joe L. Dunigan, 37, of Benton. He was killed on March 11, 2004 in Fallujah, Iraq, when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device. Dunigan was assigned to the Army’s 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, based at Fort Riley, Kansas.
 

9. Staff Sergeant George S. Rentschler, 31, of Louisville. He was killed on April 7, 2004 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his military vehicle was hit with a rocket- propelled grenade. Rentschler was assigned to the Army’s 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.
 

10. Corporal Nicholas Dieruf, 21, of Versailles. He was killed on April 8, 2004, in or near Fallujah, Iraq, in an explosion. Dieruf was assigned to the Marine Corps’ 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, a unit in the 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Pendleton, California.
 

11. First Lieutenant Robert Henderson, 33, of Alvaton. He was killed on April 17, 2004 in Diwaniyah, Iraq, when his convoy tried to avoid an overturned trailer and came under small arms attack. Henderson was assigned to the Kentucky Army National Guard’s Detachment 1, 2123rd Transportation Company, Owensboro, Kentucky.
 

12. Sergeant James W. Harlan, 44, of Owensboro. He was killed on May 14, 2004 at Camp Anaconda, Iraq, when a suicide bomber detonated a car bomb next to his vehicle. Harlan was assigned to the Army Reserve’s 660th Transportation Company, 88th Regional Readiness Command, Zanesville, Ohio.
 

13. Lance Corporal Deshon E. Otey, 24, of Hardin, Kentucky. He was killed on June 21, 2004 from hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Otey was assigned to the Marine Corps’ 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.
 

14. Sergeant Tatjana Reed, 34, of Fort Campbell. She was killed on July 22, 2004 in Samarra, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near her convoy vehicle. Reed was assigned to the Army’s 66th Transportation Company from Kaiserslautern, Germany.
 

15. Private First Class Joshua K. Titcomb, 20, of Somerset. He was killed on Sept. 29, 2004 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, of injuries sustained on September 28 when an improvised explosive device exploded near his military vehicle. Titcomb was assigned to the Army’s 2nd Battalion, 72nd Armor Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Casey, Korea.
 

16. Private First Class Stephen P. Downing II, 30, of Burkesville. He was killed on Oct. 28, 2004 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, from small arms fire while conducting combat operations. Downing was assigned to the Army’s 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery, Camp Hovey, Korea.
 

17. Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley, 20, of Lexington. He was killed on Nov. 7, 2004 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq from injuries received as a result of enemy action. Langley was assigned to the Marine Corps’ 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.
 

18. Sergeant Christopher T. Heflin, 26, of Paducah. He was killed on Nov. 16, 2004 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq 16 as result of enemy action. Heflin was assigned to the Marine Corps’ 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California.
 

19. Specialist Jonathan A. Hughes, 21, of Lebanon. He was killed on March 19, 2005 near Baghdad, Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Hughes was assigned to the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 623rd Field Artillery Regiment, Campbellsville, Kentucky.
 

20. Specialist Eric L. Toth, 21, of Edmonton. He was killed on March 30, 2005 on a supply route when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Toth was assigned to the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 623rd Field Artillery Regiment, Tompkinsville, Kentucky.
 

21. Sergeant James A. Sherrill, 27, of Ekron. He was killed on April 3, 2005 in Bayji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle. Sherrill was assigned to the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 2113th Transportation Company, Paducah, Kentucky.
 

22. Petty Officer Third Class Jeffery L. Wiener, 32, of Louisville. He was killed on May 7, 2005, in a combat related incident. Weiner was a Navy hospital corpsman assigned to II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejune, North Carolina.
 

23. Sergeant David N. Wimberg, 24, of Louisville. He was killed on May 25, 2005 from wounds received as a result of small-arms fire from enemy forces while conducting combat operations in Hadithah, Iraq. Wimberg was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve’s 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Columbus, Ohio. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
 

24. Specialist Michael Hayes, 29, of Morgantown. He was killed on June 14, 2005 during a rocket propelled grenade attack while providing security around a suspected improvised explosive device near Baghdad, Iraq. Hayes was assigned to the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 617th Military Police
Company, Richmond, Kentucky.
 

25. Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett, 22, of Whitehouse. He died June 23, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq, of a non-combat related injury. Tackett was assigned to the Army’s 1st Battalion, 76th Field Artillery, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.
 

26. Sergeant First Class Christopher W. Phelps, 39, of Louisville. He was killed June 23, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle. Phelps was assigned to the Army’s 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado.
 

27. Specialist Ryan J. Montgomery, 22, of Greensburg. He was killed July 3, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle while his unit was conducting convoy operations. Montgomery was assigned to the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 623rd Field Artillery Regiment, Campbellsville, Kentucky.
 

28. Specialist Ronnie D. Williams, 26, of Erlanger. He died on July 17, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained on 16 JUL 05 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his M1A2 Abrams tank left the road and entered a canal during patrol operations. Williams was assigned to the Army’s 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado.
 

29. Sergeant First Class Robert V. Derenda, 42, of Ledbetter. He died on Aug. 5, 2005 in Rubiah, Iraq, when a civilian fuel truck collided with his vehicle while performing a convoy mission. Derenda was assigned to the U.S. Army Reserve’s 1st Brigade, 98th Division, Rochester, New York.
 

30. Lance Corporal Chase J. Comley, 21, of Lexington. He was killed on Aug. 6, 2005 as a result of an explosion from a suicide, vehicle-borne, improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces near Al Amiriyah, Iraq. He was assigned to the Marine Corps’ 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
 

31. Specialist Jason E. Ames, 21, of Cerulean. He died on Aug. 31, 2005, in Mosul, Iraq, from non-combat related injuries. Ames was assigned to the Army’s 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington.
 

32. Sergeant Matthew L. Deckard, 29, of Elizabethtown. He was killed on Sept. 16, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his M1A1 Abrams tank during patrol operations. Deckard was assigned to the Army’s 4th Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.
 

33. Sergeant William Alvin Allers III, 28, of Leitchfield. He was killed on Sept. 20, 2005 near Al Khalis, Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his armored humvee. Allers was assigned to the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 617th Military Police Company, Richmond, Kentucky.
 

34. Sergeant First Class John D. Morton, 31, of Stanton. He was killed on Dec. 15, 2005, in Shah Wali Kot, Afghanistan when his dismounted patrol came under attack by enemy forces using small arms fire. Morton was assigned to the 74th Infantry Detachment (Long Range Surveillance), 173rd Airborne Brigade, Vincenza, Italy.
 

35. Sergeant First Class Jason L. Bishop, 31, of Williamstown. He was killed on Jan. 1, 2006 in As Siniyah, Iraq when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his humvee during patrol operations. Bishop was assigned to the 1st Squadron 33rd Cavalry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
 

36. Private First Class Scott A. Messer, 26, of Ashland. He was killed on Feb. 2, 2006 in Ashraf, Iraq when his humvee accidentally rolled over during convoy operations. Messer was assigned to the Army’s 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
 

37. Sergeant First Class Lance S. Cornett, 33, of London. He died Feb. 3, 2006 in the vicinity of Ar Ramadi, Iraq of injuries sustained earlier that day while engaging enemy forces. Cornett was assigned to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
 

38. Staff Sergeant Brock A. Beery, 30, of White House, Tennessee.* He died March 23, 2006 in Habbaniya, Iraq,, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle, followed by enemy small arms fire, during combat operations. Beery was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 2nd Battalion, 123rd Armor Regiment, Bowling Green, Kentucky.
* Staff Sergeant Beery, a member of the Kentucky National Guard, was considered one of our own.
 

39. Specialist James W. Gardner, 22, of Glasgow. He died April 10, 2006 in Tal Afar, Iraq, from a non-combat related cause. Gardner was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
 

40. Lance Corporal Justin D. Sims, 22, of Covington. He died April 15, 2006 in Al Anbar province, Iraq, when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device during combat operations. Sims was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
 

41. Master Sergeant Clinton Cubert, 38, of Lawrenceburg. He died April 16, 2006 at the Lexington VA Medical Center as the result of injuries he sustained on 11 SEP 05 near Samarra, Iraq, when his armored vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Cubert was assigned to the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 2113th Transportation Company, Paducah, Kentucky.
 

42. Private First Class Robert J. Settle, 25, of Owensboro. He died April 19, 2006 in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Settle was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armored Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
 

43. Captain Clayton Lee Adamkavicius, 42, of Louisville. He died April 20, 2006 near Dihrawud district, Uruzghan Province, Afghanistan, after being mortally wounded by small arms fire while investigating an anti-coalition weapons cache. Adamkavicius was assigned to the Kentucky Army National Guard’s Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 149th Infantry, Barbourville, Kentucky.
 

44. Sergeant Robert W. Ehney, 26, of Lexington. He died April 23, 2006 in Taji, Iraq, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Ehney was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
 

45. Staff Sergeant Santiago M. Halsel, 32, of Bowling Green. He died May 16, 2006 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was conducting a dismounted clearance mission during combat operations. Halsel was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
 

46. Corporal Christopher T. Warndorf, 21, of Burlington. He died Aug. 29, 2006 in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Warndorf was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp LeJeune, North Carolina.
 

47. Lieutenant Commander Jane Elizabeth Lanham, 43, of Owensboro. She died Sept. 19, 2006 in Manama, Bahrain. Her death was not combat-related. Lanham was assigned to the Nbralth Clinic Asu Manama, Bahrain.
 

48. Sergeant 1st Class Charles Jason Jones, 29, of Lawrenceburg. He died Sept. 20, 2006 in Baghdad, Iraq. His death was not combat-related. Jones was assigned to the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 149th Brigade Combat Team Headquarters, Frankfort, Kentucky.
 

49. Corporal Windell J. Simmons, 20, of Hopkinsville. He died Sept. 21, 2006 in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Simmons was assigned the 3rd Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
 

50. Specialist Timothy A. Fulkerson, 20, of Utica. He died Oct. 8, 2006 in Tikrit, Iraq, when a landmine detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Fulkerson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 82nd Aviation Reconnaissance Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
 

51. Staff Sergeant Garth D. Sizemore, 31, of Mount Sterling. He died Oct. 17, 2006 in Bagdad, Iraq, from injuries suffered when his patrol came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during combat operations. Sizemore was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.
 

52. Lance Corporal Jonathan B. Thornsberry, 22, of McDowell. He died Oct. 25, 2006 in Al Anbar province, Iraq, while conducting combat operations. He was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve’s 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Johnson City, Tennessee.
 

53. Private First Class Theodore M. West, 23, of Richmond. He died Nov. 29, 2006 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle while conducting combat operations. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
 

54. Lance Corporal Thomas P. Echols, 20, of Shepherdsville. He died Dec. 4, 2006 in Al Anbar province, Iraq, while conducting combat operations. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
 

55. Staff Sergeant Thomas W. Clemons, 37, of Leitchfield. He died Dec. 10, 2006 in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq, from a non-combat health-related incident. He was assigned to Kentucky Army National Guard’s Company B, 2nd Battalion, 123rd Armor, Leitchfield, Kentucky.
 

56. Major Michael L. Mundell, 47, of Brandenburg. He died Jan. 5, 2007 in Fallujah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Mundell was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 108th Division (Institutional Training), Spartanburg, South Carolina.
 

57. Sergeant John E. Cooper, 29, of Ewing. He died Jan. 15, 2007 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Cooper was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
 

58. Specialist William G. Bowling, 24, of Beattyville. He died April 1, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. He was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.
 

59. Corporal Joseph H. Cantrell, IV, 23, of Ashland. He died April 4, 2007 in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
 

60. Chief Petty Officer Gregory J. Billiter, 36, of Villa Hills. He died April 6, 2007 near Kirkuk, Iraq, from enemy action while conducting combat operations. He was assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit Eleven, Whidbey Island, Washington.
 

61. Staff Sergeant Christopher N. Hamlin, 24, of London. He died May 4, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle. He was assigned to B Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
 

62. Private First Class Joshua M. Moore, 20, of Russellville. He died May 30, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sufferered when the vehicle he was in struck an an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.
 

63. Private First Class Timothy R. Vimoto, 19, of Fort Campbell. He died June 5, 2007 in Korengal Valley, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by insurgents using small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Camp Ederle, Italy.
 

64. Sergeant First Class William A. Zapfe, 35, of Muldraugh. He died June 19, 2007 in Muhammad al Ali, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.
 

65. Lance Corporal Robert A. Lynch, 20, of Louisville. He died July 25, 2007 while conducting combat operations in Diyala Province, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.
 

66. Staff Sergeant Nicholas R. Carnes, 25, of Dayton. He died Aug. 26, 2007 in Orgun-e, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire in Lewanne Bazaar, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 138th Field Artillery Regiment, Kentucky Army National Guard, Carrollton, Kentucky.
 

67. Staff Sergeant Delmar White, 37, of Lexington. He died Sept. 6, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device. White was assigned to Battery B, 2nd Battalion, 138th Field Artillery, Kentucky Army National Guard, based in Carlisle, Kentucky.
 

68. Private First Class Sammie E. Phillips, 19, of Vine Grove. He died Sept.10, 2007 when his vehicle overturned while conducting a traffic control mission on a highway near Rustamiyah, Iraq. Phillips was assigned to the Battery B, 2nd Battalion, 138th Field Artillery, Kentucky Army National Guard, based in Carlisle, Kentucky.
 

69. Master Sergeant Thomas L. Bruner, 50, of Owensboro. He died Oct. 28, 2007 in Kabul, Afghanistan from a non-combat related illness. Bruner was assigned to the Headquarters, 2nd Brigade, 100th Division, U.S. Army Reserve, Owensboro, Kentucky.
 

70. Private First Class Brian L. Gorham, 21, of Woodburn. He died Dec. 31, 2007 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, of wounds suffered on Dec. 12 in Afghanistan when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Camp Ederle, Vicenza, Italy.
 

71. Specialist Jeremy R. Gullett, 22, of Greenup. He died May 7, 2008 in the Sabaia District, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
 

72. Captain Eric Daniel Terhune, 34, of Lexington. He died June 19, 2008 while conducting combat operations in Farah Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
 

74. Private First Class Sergio S. Abad, 21, of Morganfield. He died of wounds suffered when his outpost was attacked by small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades from enemy forces in Wanat, Afghanistan, on July 13, 2008. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503d Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy.
 

75. Sergeant David K. Cooper, 25, of Williamsburg. He died Aug. 27, 2008 of wounds suffered in Qadasivah, Iraq, when his dismounted patrol came under small arms fire. He was assigned to Forward Support Company, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
 

76. Sergeant William P. Rudd, 27, of Madisonville. He died Oct. 5, 2008 of wounds suffered from enemy small arms fire while on a combat patrol in Mosul, Iraq. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Ga.
 

77. Sergeant Daniel W. Wallace, 27, of Dry Ridge. He died Oct. 31, 2008 in Badin Kheyl, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire. He was assigned to the 201st Combat Engineer Battalion, Kentucky Army National Guard in Cynthiana, Ky.
 

78. Lance Corporal Thomas Reilly Jr., 19, of London. He died Dec. 21, 2008 while supporting combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii
 

79. Lance Corporal Chadwick A. Gilliam, 29, of Mayking. He died Jan. 3, 2009 at a U.S. military base in Kuwait. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
 

80. Sergeant Joshua A. Ward, 30, of Scottsville. He died Feb. 9, 2009 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
 

81. Captain Brian M. Bunting, 29, of Elizabethtown. He died Feb. 24, 2009 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was on combat patrol. He was a member of the Individual Ready Reserve, assigned to the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Syracuse, N.Y.
 

82. Staff Sergeant Gary L. Woods Jr., 24, of Lebanon Junction. He died April 10, 2009 in Mosul, Iraq, when his military vehicle was struck by a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carlson, Colorado.
 

83. Specialist Kevin C. Graham, 27, of Benton. He died Sept. 26 2009 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2th Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.
 

84. Technical Sergeant Anthony C. Campbell Jr., 35, of Florence. He died Dec. 15, 2009 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered from the detonation of an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 932nd Civil Engineer Squadron, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.
 

85. Lance Corporal Timothy J. Poole, 22, of Bowling Green. He died Jan. 24, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
 

86. Sergeant First Class Matthew W. Sluss-Tiller, 35, of Catlettsburg. He died Feb. 3, 2010 in Timagara, Pakistan, from wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne), 95th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
 

87. Sergeant Adam J. Ray, 23, of Louisville. He died Feb. 10, 2009 in southern Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
 

88. Lance Corporal Adam D. Peak, 25, of Florence. He died Feb. 21, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
 

89. Lance Corporal Matthias N. Hanson, 20, of Buffalo. He died Feb. 21, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
 

90. Sergeant Randolph A. Sigley, 28, of Richmond. He died April 18, 2010 in Bagram, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 2123rd Transportation Company, Richmond, Kentucky.
 

91. Private First Class Russell E. Madden, 29, of Dayton. He died June 23, 2010 at Charkh district, Konar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his vehicle with rocket fire. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Conn Barracks, Germany.
 

92. Sergeant First Class Kristopher D. Chapleau, 33, of LaGrange. He died June 30, 2010 at Forward Operating Base Blessing, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
 

93. Private First Class Michael S. Pridham, 19, of Louisville. He died July 6, 2010 at Qalat, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Infrantry Regiment, Hohenfels, Germany.
 

94. Private First Class Nathaniel D. Garvin, 20, of Radcliff. He died July 12, 2010 at Forward Operating Base Frontenac, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 96th Aviation Support Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
 

95. Staff Sergeant Christopher T. Stout, 34, of Worthville. He died July 13, 2010 in Kandahar City, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with rifle, rocket propelled grenade, and small arms fire. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 83nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
 

96. Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Collin Thomas, 33, of Morehead. He died Aug. 18, 2010 during a combat operation in eastern Afghanistan. Thomas was assigned to an east coast-based SEAL team.
 

97. Specialist Christopher S. Wright, 23, of Tollesboro. He died Aug. 19, 2010 in Pech, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Air Field, Ga.

101. Private Brandon T. Pickering, 21, of Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He died April 10, 2011 in Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, German, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire and a rocket propelled grenade in Wardak province, Afghanistan, April 8. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La.
 

102. Sergeant Jeremy R. Summers, 27, of Mt. Olivet. He died July 14, 2011 in Paktika province, Afghanistan, after enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire on July 13. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.
 

103. Specialist Brandon S. Mullins, 21, of Owensboro. He died August 25, 2011 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
 

104. Private First Class Dustin P. Napier, 20, of London. He died Jan. 8, 2012 in Zabul province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from enemy small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
 

105. Lieutenant Colonel John D. Loftis, 44, of Paducah. He died Feb. 25, 2012 from wounds received during an attack at the Interior Ministry, Kabul, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 866th Air Expeditionary Squadron, Kabul, Afghanistan.
