Kentucky miners lose jobs in Arch Coal layoffs
More than 500 Kentucky coal miners are being laid off as part of massive job cuts by Arch Coal, which represents 15 percent of U.S. coal supplies, The Hazard Herald reports.
Kentucky Coal Association President Bill Bissett confirmed the news to the Herald.
Arch Coal lists 14 mining complexes in central Appalachia on its website, including four in Kentucky: the Hazard/Flint Ridge Complex in Perry and Breathitt Counties, the Knott County/Raven Complex in Kite, Ky., the Cumberland River mine in Letcher County and Wise County, Va., and the Lone Mountain mine in Harlan County and Lee County, Va.
