UK recognized for social media savvy;
Coach Cal’s Twitter popularity cited
The University of Kentucky has been ranked second in the nation in the Her Campus 2012 college rankings of social media savvy universities.
UK was recognized for a combination of factors, including campaigns such as Video of the Week on the university’s Facebook and YouTube accounts, the students’ use of Twitter, and the follower numbers and content of UK Men’s Basketball Coach John Calipari’s Twitter account, @UKCoachCalipari.
With a team of over 3,000 student experts at more than 200 colleges and universities across the country, Her Campus, an online community for college women, presented a list of rankings on 13 different categories from those that had the biggest celebrity presence to those that are in-the-know on social media.
“We wanted to showcase those schools that go above and beyond to provide a complete collegiate experience — whatever that means to them,” said Her Campus co-founder, CEO and editor-in-chief Stephanie Kaplan. “These rankings showcase the diversity of our student ambassadors and the campuses themselves, demonstrating how each school is unique in its own way while having (more than) a little bit of fun.”
The other colleges listed in the Her Campus Social Media Savvy top 10 are Emerson College, Harvard University, University of Texas at Austin, Johns Hopkins University, Ohio State University, University of Michigan, Babson College, Stanford University and American University.
