Lex What Wear: All you need is L-O-V-E and
a few more graphic tees to dress things up
By Alex McLean
Once again, I want to start off by asking all of you to KEEP VOTING for me in the Wallis Brand Ambassador competition. As I mentioned last week, I have been nominated to participate in the first-ever Wallis Brand Ambassador program. I’m up against about 10 other U.S. fashion bloggers, and right now I’m running neck-and-neck with a blogger out of Los Angeles. I need to be in the top five to be considered, so please help me put Kentucky and Lexington on the fashion map!
You can vote once a day until April 9 on the Wallis Facebook page. all you have to do is “like” Wallis’ Facebook page and then vote HERE. Voting will end at midnight April 9. (Thanks to all of you who have already given me your support!)

Now, I want to talk about a four-letter word we toss around all the time: L-O-V-E. All you need is love, right? Right!
I absolutely fell in L-O-V-E with this graphic tee from Forever 21, and I started envisioning it with so many pieces in my existing wardrobe. Rule No. 1: If you can wear something with more than one existing piece in your closet, and it’s affordable … then buy it!
This tee was under $20, and I’ve already worn it twice with two totally different outfits. Call me a repeat offender if you must, but I love wearing pieces several different ways and numerous times. That’s how a girl on a budget gets the most bang for her buck.
So why did I put these pieces together? I obviously love the black in the outfit, and I adore the the suit separates that are more dressy with a casual, graphic tee. It makes for a modern look with a touch of sophistication.
My Tip: Take a pair of your favorite dress pants and pair it with a more casual blouse. Top it off with something of structure: blazer, vest, or a fitted cardigan. Try it out and send your looks to me: firstname.lastname@example.org or tweet @LexWhatWear.

I wanted to share with you all a little DIY project I started doing on the weekends up here in NYC. I am creating a pin board. I haven’t finished, but I have a good start, and I’ve actually felt more inspired to continue this dream of mine. It took me away from the computer and back to the things that got me here. My board includes personal notes, family pics, things from back home in Kentucky and little phrases that remind me to KEEP GOING! I plan to keep changing the board and find new inspiration as my journey progresses.
Although my personal board has a lot of fashion and style touches to it, yours can be whatever you want it to be. Think about these questions: What really gets you thinking? What encourages you to be better and do better? Who or what lights up your life?
So let’s get down ins and outs of creating a pin board. First I sought inspiration from others, and then I sorted through the things I had in my apartment that I found motivating. Once you start this process, all you need is scissors, push pins and a board to pin to. And it only cost about $30.
Here is my pin board in progress. I hope you’ll try making one of your own!
