When mother abandoned baby gorilla, Salyer’s faux furs in Covington saved the day

When a plea for help came from the Cincinnati Zoo, Donna Salyers’ Fabulous-Furs swung into action.

Abandoned at birth by her mother, baby gorilla Gladys is being groomed by Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden experts to transition to a surrogate mother gorilla. Gladys must be held 24/7 and ten handlers of various sizes need “fur” jackets to teach Gladys what her mother should have: cling to your mama’s back.

When Gladys saw the Northern Kentucky-based catalog’s faux Black Feather Fox fashionista vest it was love at first sight! The vest worked so well, Ron Evans, Cincinnati Zoo’s Primate Leader, requested a variety of jackets in varying pile lengths and designs.

With Ron’s guidance, Fabulous-Furs founder Donna Salyers quickly drafted updated Mama Gorilla jacket patterns, complete with vents and baby-proof closures.

“If our faux furs fool Beverly Hills furriers, a baby gorilla should be easy,” laughed Salyers. “Everything we do at Fabulous-Furs revolves around helping animals and helping Gladys is a joy. We’re sharing her story with our kids and grandkids and can’t wait to see her once she ready to meet her adoring public.”

As for Gladys, she’s blissfully happy, contently cuddling and clinging to her faux-fur-clad “mamas” with the look, feel and snuggle factor of animal fur.

Here is a report from ABC News’s Good Morning America about Gladys the Gorilla:
