Lex What Wear: This brand makes shopping personal; autumn colors spice things up

By Alex McLean

I’ve discovered a brand that I just have to share with you – Veeshee. Thanks to my beautiful sorority sister Brooke, I am now a proud Veeshee bag owner.

So let me tell you about the custom, one-of-a-kind shopping experience that is Veeshee. The company, which offers exclusive tote bags, blankets, pillows and much more, was launched to set the new standard in personalized shopping. Customers put their own mark on the products with their own designs.

The tote bag I created is photographed above and below. (Keep reading and you’ll see it pop up again!) Something about this design makes me think of a back-home, shoes-off, fall-in-the-air kind of mood. So on a warm fall night on my cozy NYC back porch, I’ve got my Veeshee bag to share with all of you. NOW Go SHOPPIN’ Y’ALL!

My bag: Ravena with chocolate ikat exterior, pomegranate interior, chocolate leather, Times New Roman monogram.

Long ago, I declared fall my favorite season of all. I especially love October. The leaves are changing, the scenery is transforming and – not to sound trite – there’s just a crispness in the air. To embrace this time of year, I’m pulling out the autumn shades and will be highlighting them in the coming weeks. Starting, of course, with the best of all things fall – pumpkin – color and otherwise.

Here I’m wearing a pumpkin-colored dolman-sleeved top with, what else, sleek black pants. It doesn’t get much more Octobery than that! (Side Note: tight clothes are just not my thing. I don’t know about you but I’d rather wear the clothes than the clothes wear me.)

If pumpkin shades are not exactly your color, you might try forest green, a mulberry or deep red, a beige, or a heather gray. They speak fall, too!

Just for fun, check out this orange-hued eye shadow. I guarantee all eyes will be on you when you add this to your fall look.

I want to put in another plug for “Recycle the Runway,” the fashion show and luncheon scheduled for 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Grand Reserve in Lexington. The show benefits the new Dress for Success Lexington.

The really fun part of this event is that seven local designers – all from Lexington – will showcase the fashions they created out of a bag of used, otherwise unsuitable garments. They will be judged on craftsmanship, creativity, overall style and originality.

The judges are all owners of Lexington boutiques, including Betty Spain of Bella Rose, Ty McBrayer of Twirl Boutique and Cliff Katsamakis of Embry’s.

Tickets are available through Oct. 11 and can be reserved by emailing fundraising@dfslexington.org or calling 859-231-SUIT (7848). The event will also include a wide variety of silent auction items with something for everyone.

Amy Wickliffe, fundraising chair for Dress for Success Lexington and event organizer, said they are expecting 150 guests this first year. They’re still looking for sponsors, too, to help the organization during its startup phase. One hundred percent of your support stays local! Contact Amy at fundraising@dfslexington.org if you can help or want to volunteer.
