The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team gave back to the Richmond community by volunteering at Habitat for Humanity earlier this week.

The project was done in conjunction with Martin Luther King Jr. Day observances.

“We just wanted to give back on the day of service,” EKU Head Coach Edwin Thompson said. “Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his life so we just wanted to give back in a small way, and it was also really good for team bonding.”

The team helped organize the Habitat for Humanity warehouse. The Colonels were able to make it more functional so Habitat can get structures built inside when the weather outside is as cold as it has been.

Thompson and his team will be going back in the fall, when the weather will permit outdoor work, to follow up and work with Habitat to help build homes.
