Guest chef Hall serving Burgundy-inspired French vegan dinner at Midway’s Holly Hill Inn on Aug. 5

The Holly Hill Inn, 426 North Winter Street in Midway, is serving a French vegan dinner Aug. 5 created by guest chef Sherry Hall, who is a longtime friend of owner Ouita Michel.

“I want vegans to experience a cuisine that is generally not very vegan friendly, given how prominent butter, cheese and meat are in the French diet,” Hall said. “The menu includes vegan versions of classic French dishes, including a cheese course and desserts like chocolate mousse and crème brûlée.”

Hall, who is from Cambridge, Mass., traveled to France this summer with several members of the Holly Hill Inn Wine Guild to explore the wine and cuisine of Burgundy. It was there she found inspiration for this dinner.

“When in Burgundy, I shopped at local markets and worked on the Boeuf Bourguignon Vegetalien. While in Paris, I discovered a cookbook store that was two stories tall. I bought French vegan cookbooks there. I visited a vegan store in Paris that had hundreds of vegan cheeses from all over Europe. Twice I enjoyed dinner at the Gentle Gourmet, a Paris restaurant that describes itself as a ‘house of vegan gastronomy.’ ”

Wine pairings by the glass and bottle will be available, and cocktail specials.

Seatings for the French Vegan Dinner are available at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tables for two are very limited and will be reserved first come, first serve.
