The 2011 Martha Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider title was awarded to one of the nation’s fastest rising equestrian stars, Jessica Springsteen of Colts Neck, New Jersey. She is the daughter of singer Bruce Springsteen.
The award was presented at the conclusion of the Alltech National Horse Show, held for the first time in its 128 year history at the Kentucky Horse Park.
Springsteen’s third place performance, with her highly competitive and classy mare, Cincinnati Le Silla, was one of the best of her young career and put the capper on a tremendous week of competition.
“My mare was fantastic. This was a very exciting night for me,” said Springsteen following her top finish on Saturday night.
Martha Jolicoeur explained her sponsorship: “I sponsored the Leading Lady Rider award in memory of my friend, Dale Lawler. I know that Dale would be as excited as I am that that award would go to one of the fastest rising stars in our sport, Jessica Springsteen. She proved that she can compete with anyone, on any level,” said Martha Jolicoeur.
“I am so happy that we got involved with this year’s debut of the Alltech National Horse Show in Lexington,” Jolicoeur concluded. “I’ve talked to so many horsemen and women over the past few days and their reviews of the show have been tremendous. Everyone loved it!”
“We were honored to offer this exciting award to our top women competitors. It certainly couldn’t have been won by a more electrifying young rider,” said National Horse Show Association President, Mason Phelps, Jr. “We are very grateful to Martha Jolicoeur for this important sponsorship.”
The Alltech National Horse Show, 129th edition, will return to the Kentucky Horse Park in 2012.
