Penelope “Penny” Gold, who has helped transform the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants (KyCPA) into the Commonwealth’s leading advocate for Kentucky’s accounting professionals, has announced her retirement from the organization effective Nov. 30, after more than 14 years of service.

Under Gold’s leadership, KyCPA positioned itself as a proactive and influential force working with policymakers at both the state and national level to strengthen accounting education and public protection policies. She also worked to enhance the member experience by expanding the Society’s educational scholarships and adding a variety of new publications and programs.

After an extensive, nationwide search, the KyCPA Board of Directors has named Darlene Zibart, CPA, as the new CEO of the Society. A native of Meade County, Kentucky, Zibart knows the accounting profession and the Society well having served the previous 14 years as the organization’s CFO/COO. Prior to joining KyCPA, Zibart served as a finance professional in the manufacturing sector.

KyCPA President Kevin Joynt, CPA and managing partner of Deloitte & Touche, said, “We are very fortunate that Darlene has accepted the challenge. Our membership will be served well by her passion, intelligence and creativity.”

In addition, Charles George, JD, has been promoted to Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel of KyCPA, and will continue his strong representation of the Society in Frankfort and Washington D.C. George, a native of Lebanon, Kentucky, joined the Society in 2012 after working in public affairs at the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
