Louis G. Bourgois III, President of the Lexington Musicians’ Association AFM Local 554-635, expressed “this new Master Agreement is the tangible result of hard work from both sides of the negotiating table to build a positive, collective relationship between the Local and the Lexington Philharmonic Society, and ensure that the Lexington Philharmonic continues to thrive, excel, and fulfill its artistic commitment to the community well into the future.”

Key topics addressed during negotiations included: providing a specific number of guaranteed services per season for each musician, while providing LexPhil Management flexibility in how those services are applied; incremental increases in service guarantees and wage scale over the term of the contract; and clarification of language and intent for several articles carried forward from the prior Master Agreement.

During the Master Agreement signing event on Monday, Carol McLeod, President of the Lexington Philharmonic Society Board of Directors, thanked all who participated in negotiations of the new Master Agreement. She emphasized, “The care and collaborative manner with which negotiations were approached is a testament to the commitment we all have and the spirit we carry forward as we continue to build the role and value of the Lexington Philharmonic in our community and region.”

The mission of the Lexington Philharmonic is to foster excellence and innovation in the performance and presentation of great music; to enrich the lives of our diverse citizenry; to educate current and future audiences and to bring distinction to our community through the orchestra’s presence and standing. Through LexPhil’s four core values of artistic excellence, innovation, collaboration and accessibility, LexPhil will continue to move forward, artistically and purposefully, providing world-class musical experiences and impactful educational opportunities for Lexington, the Bluegrass Region and beyond.
