Elvis Lives!
Get “All Shook Up” at the Lexington Opera House, 430 W. Vine St., this Thursday, Feb. 9, at 8 p.m. with “Elvis Lives!” a multimedia and live musical journey across Elvis’ life. The cast members include Bill Cherry, Ben Klein, Kevin Mills and Victor Trevino Jr., each representing Elvis during different stages in his career. The Elvis tribute artists will be joined by a live band, backup singers, dancers, along with an Ann-Margret tribute artist, as well as iconic imagery made available from the Graceland archives. “Of Water and Spirit: New Paintings by Patrick Adams”
The Ann Tower Gallery will present “Of Water and Spirit: New Paintings by Patrick Adams,” an exhibition of 11, new large-scaled paintings that are inspired by Adams’ observations of the light, color, and forms found in the surface patterns of water on creeks and streams. Open House featuring proposed art and archaeological artifacts
The Blue Grass Community Foundation invites you to an open house to view artists’ proposals for signature art for the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden, artifacts from the archeological exploration of the Isaac Murphy home place in Lexington’s East End, and signs describing the contributions of African Americans to the thoroughbred industry. The event takes place Feb. 10 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Land of Tomorrow Gallery, 527 E. Third St.
Lexington Children’s Theatre Presents 3for300′s Production of “Salt & Pepper”
3for300′s production of Jose Cruz Gonzalez’s “Salt & Pepper” opens Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at Lexington Children’s Theatre, 418 W. Lexington Farmers Market wants to hear from you
Students from the University of Kentucky Arts and Science Department will be at the Lexington Farmers Market inside Victorian Square, 401 W. Main St., from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 to record oral histories and help preserve the memories of Lexington Farmers Market’s vendors, visitors and supporters. Whether you are there every week or Feb. 11 will be your first time, everyone is welcome to share their stories.
Lexington Legends Winter Bash
Come to the Kentucky Ale Taproom at the Whitaker Bank Ballpark Saturday, Feb. 11, to cheer on the Wildcats and enjoy a special night in support of St. Jude Children’s Hospital. All proceeds will be donated directly to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Enjoy an open bar provided by Kentucky Ale and hors d’oeuvres provided by Window World of Lexington and the Lexington Legends. Friends of Lexington Public Library sale
The Friends of the Lexington Public Library will a sale Feb. 5-14. Everything will be 20-percent off, including gift items; members receive an additional 10 percent off the already reduced price.
Applications accepted
Lexington Art League is now accepting artist applications via ZAPPlication.org for American Founders Bank Woodland Art Fair. Using ZAPPlication, artists are able to submit images of artwork and booths as well as update applicant information 24 hours a day. There are 12 categories for entries, including 2-D mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, drawing/pastels, fiber/leather, glass, graphics/printmaking, jewelry, metalwork, painting, photography and wood.
The deadline to apply is March 31 at 9 a.m., and the application fee is $25. Artwork will be evaluated on the criteria of technique, craftsmanship, design, originality and presentation. Jurors for 2012′s fair are Darrell Kincer, photographer and assistant professor of art at Georgetown College, and Helene Steene, painter and a Kentucky Arts Council Kentucky Crafted Program recipient. Acceptances will be announced through ZAPPlication(TM) in early May.
