Get Healthy Kentucky announces events
at third annual 2nd Sunday on June 10

Blue Grass Airport and Get Healthy Kentucky today announced the schedule of events for the 3rd annual 2nd Sunday on the runway.

“Once again, we are looking forward to hosting 2nd Sunday at Blue Grass Airport,” said Eric Frankl, executive director at Blue Grass Airport. “This event will provide members of the local community with 4,000 feet of flat, smooth runway surface to be active with friends and family, while enjoying a rare opportunity to exercise in an aviation environment. While we never know whether we will be able to host this event every year, we are excited about the opportunity to open our operation this year to the public so they can experience the airport from a new perspective.”

New this year is the addition of the United Way’s 5K on the Runway, sponsored by BC Wood Properties, beginning at 7:00 a.m. Race participants will run the 5K on the runway.

“It’s a unique race course with a unique view,” said David Kitchen, director of brand strategy at the United Way. “How often are you given a flat, wide open course where you can watch the airplanes take off and view some of the most beautiful green space at the same time?”

The Bluegrass State Games also confirmed its attendance and the support of its sponsors at 2nd Sunday. “We are looking forward to kicking off the Bluegrass State Games at this terrific event,” said Terry Johnson, Executive Director of the Bluegrass Sports Commission. “The Games has always been about
promoting active lifestyles of Kentuckians and this partnership is the perfect way for us to kick off our 28th season.”

The Games will officially light the torch signifying the beginning of the annual event. In addition, Bluegrass State Games sponsors will also be providing some unique opportunities to attendees. Subway has announced that its national spokesman, Jared Fogle, will be on hand to help celebrate this wonderful event, and the Kentucky Select Chevy dealers will be conducting an exhibition of some of their newest models on the runway.”

“2nd Sunday continues to grow,” said Jay McChord, who is the founder of 2nd Sunday and a board member of Get Healthy Kentucky. “The community has really embraced this event and we are thankful that the airport has provided us with such a fantastic area to highlight not only the best in fitness and
wellness, but in aviation as well.”

Sponsors of the event include: Abundant Living Medical Clinic, Sullivan University, Dermatology Consultants, Walgreens, Columbia Gas, Kentucky Utilities and Kentucky American Water Company. 2nd Sunday will take place on Sunday, June 10, 2012. The 5K begins at 7:00 a.m. and 2nd Sunday begins at 1:00 p.m. For additional information on activities, a schedule of events, parking information and more, visit
