‘Edible Plants of the Bluegrass’ tour at Waveland State Historic Site set for June 22

Waveland State Historic Site is offering a special tour on “Edible Plants of the Bluegrass” on June 22 at 2 p.m.

Chris Propes, a staff member at Waveland and avid historical re-enactor, will host a tour of the 15 acres at Waveland State Historic site, identifying and explaining edible plants in the Bluegrass region. Participants will learn some of the ways pioneer Kentuckians were able to live off the land prior to agricultural development.

Waveland includes a variety of plant environments, with a small wooded area, spring branch and meadow. The fee for the tour is $7 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and $4 for students of any age.

Guests should wear comfortable shoes and may bring cameras or sketch pads to record their observations. Collection of specimens in a state park is not permitted.

Tours of the mansion are offered on the hour for an admission fee. The mansion is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays 1-5 p.m. For more information, call 859-272-3611.
