If you make an awesome pie, here’s your chance to compete for best in the Bluegrass.
The Great American Pie Contest and Ice Cream Social is one of the first events of this year’s 4th of July Festival in downtown Lexington. It will be held at noon on Monday, July 2, in the Fifth Third Bank Pavilion at Cheapside Park.
Sign up now and submit up to two pies and you could be one of the winners of an award to be presented after the judging on July 2. The deadline to enter a pie is Wednesday, June 27.
To sign up, download an entry form at downtownlex.com and return it by Wednesday, June 27.
You can enter pies in two categories: “Made from Scratch,” and “Semi-Homemade.” There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes given in each category. In addition, an award will be given for the “Prettiest Pie.” Sullivan University Culinary Chefs and Culinary students will judge the pies.
After the pies are judged, they will be cut and served to the crowd with scoops of ice cream.
Contestants should bring entries to the Pavilion by 10 a.m. July 2. Along with your pie, bring your recipe on a 3 x 5 inch card with ingredients and baking time. “Made from scratch” pies must be made of scratch crust and filling. “Semi-homemade pies” can include store-purchased ingredients such as crust and filling.
