New Citizen’s Fire Academy starts in February for Lexingtonians interested in firefighting

Are you interested in learning all about firefighting in Lexington? There’s a class starting in February that could be for you.

The next session of the Division of Fire and Emergency Service’s popular Citizen’s Fire Academy will begin on Feb. 11 and continue for 11 weeks.

The CFA is open to anyone who is older than 18 years of age and lives or works in Lexington or Fayette County.

Participants learn about all aspects of the Lexington Fire Department and have fun learning. The session includes many hands-on activities such as putting on firefighting gear, holding a high-pressure hose, and climbing the ladder on an aerial truck.

Classes will meet at 6 p.m. every Monday for 11 weeks, starting Feb. 11.

The application to attend can be found on the fire department website on the city webpage at lexingtonky.gov.
