Free local memory screenings among Alzheimer’s Awareness Month events

Alzheimer’s is one of the most feared diseases in the world.  And while there is no cure for dementia-related diseases, prevention is key.  That’s why Senior Helpers of Frankfort and Lexington, in-home senior care companies, are encouraging seniors in their areas to participate in free National Memory Screening Day events Nov. 15, during Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.

“The goal of our local National Memory Screening Day is to educate people about Alzheimer’s and dementia, and to allow seniors to gain better knowledge about their own cognitive abilities,” says Peter Ross, CEO and co-founder of Senior Helpers.  “Prevention is key.  We can’t stress enough that early diagnosis of these diseases is critical.”

Memory screenings do not diagnose Alzheimer’s.  They simply show whether someone would benefit from a more extensive, follow-up exam. They can also help alleviate some fears about memory loss.  Last year, more than 60,000 people nationwide took advantage of the free memory screenings.

The screenings will take place from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. at Ashwood Place Retirement Community at 102 Leonardwood Dr. in Frankfort and Lafayette Retirement Community at 690 Mason Headley Road in Lexington.
