Dunbar junior earns Siemens AP award

The Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement go to the nation’s top achievers in AP science and mathematics courses. For 2011, that includes Jessie Li of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.

Li, a junior, scored a 5 on the Computer Science, Chemistry, Calculus BC and Statistics exams. The Siemens award criteria consider those subjects as well as Biology, Environmental Science and Physics. Jessie also received a 5 on the AP U.S. History exam.

Each state potentially has two winners – one male and one female – who receive $2,000 college scholarships. Two additional national winners are awarded $5,000 scholarships.

Established in 1998, the Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement is a signature program of the Siemens Foundation and is administered by the College Board. The foundation provides more than $7 million annually in support of educational initiatives in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the United States.
