Free book exchange

 

Suzy told you last week about the YMCA of Central Kentucky’s plans to start a Little Free Library book exchange. Well, today’s the day for the big kick-off – a “grand book opening,” a Third Street Stuff, one of the three sites for the free book exchanges. The other sites are the Woodland Fire Station and the Legacy Trail at the North Lexington YMCA. Just pick up a book you want to read, return it and/or donate some books to the project. Help set up a donation site in your neighborhood or business or any place that could serve as an exchange site.

Heads-up: How to Avoid Swine Flu

 

Because it’s fair time and a lot of people (who aren’t on a regular basis) will be exposed to animals, the Center for Disease Control is just a wee bit jittery about 16 new human cases of swine flu showing up in the last three weeks — 12 in the last week alone. It’s a variant strain of the old swine flu and hasn’t been more serious than seasonal flu. The symptoms are the same: fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, and headaches. Everyone infected so far this year got better without having to be hospitalized.There have been no deaths.

 

The CDC is issuing special advice for fair-goers:

 

• If you are pregnant, frail, have a weakened immune system, or have any other risk for severe flu, consider skipping the state fair this year.
• Wash your hands with soap and water before AND after exposure to animals.
• Don’t carry food or beverages into areas where there are animals.
• Don’t eat or drink in areas where there are animals.
• Although a person can get swine flu from contact with live pigs, the disease is not spread by eating or preparing pork. (Source: www.medicinenet.com)
