$mart Suzy: Macy’s $$ winner, giveaways, kindness acts, go green, back-to-school deals

Happy Random Act of Kindness Wednesday! KyForward fitness columnist Mark D. Rucker – who went from couch potato to Ironman – had to have great personal resolve to lose 120 pounds and get himself fit. He is an inspiration to others – and he takes seriously the living of a good, whole life. Today he reminds us that we can change the world with kindness and has declared Random Act of Kindness Wednesday. RAOK on, he says.

And why not, Suzy friends. Let’s try it. Kindness is a resource everyone has plenty of. We should share it. Amazing thing is that it multiplies.

Thanks, Mark Rucker, for the reminder.

Go green tip

The average American generates 4.43 pounds of trash every day, and single-use products are a big part of that. Tackling your family’s use of disposables may seem intimidating at first, but the bounty of rad reusable solutions on the market makes it easy for anyone to kick throw-away products to the curb. To show you how simple it can be to ditch disposables, Earth911 rounded up some ways to replace disposals. Here’s one for plastic cutlery.

As many as 100 billion pieces of plastic cutlery are disposed of each year in North America, according to the University of California-Davis.

Although single-use cutlery can seem tough to avoid with takeout lunches, being prepared with a reusable alternative ahead of time can significantly diminish plastic waste.

Use instead:

Made from sustainably-harvested bamboo, this convenient cutlery set fits easily into a lunch box, handbag or desk drawer to easily banish disposables while on the go.

Utensils are heat and stain resistant, safe to use on non-stick surfaces and won’t impart or absorb flavors. They’re also safe for the dishwasher for easy cleaning.

Each set includes a pair of chopsticks, along with a fork, knife and spoon. Order one online at ReuseIt.com.
