MiLB roundup: Cowgill’s streak hits 14 games
Recaps and highlights from Kentucky’s three Minor League Baseball teams’ Sunday games:
- Right-handed pitcher Tanner Bushue pitched five shutout innings, and center fielder Emilio King homered to lead the Lexington Legends to a 3-1 win over Greenville. Designated hitter Chris Wallace was 2-4 with one double and two RBIs. (Box Score)
- Louisville Bats right-handed pitcher Scott Carroll lost his no-hitter and shutout in the eighth inning, but the Bats held on for an 11-5 win. Carroll surrendered two runs on three hits in eight innings. Third baseman Juan Francisco was 4-6 with three doubles and two runs scored. Designated hitter Daniel Dorn homered and drove in five runs. - The Bowling Green Hot Rods tied the game with a home run in the ninth inning then scored a single run in the bottom of the tenth to earn a 2-1 win over Beloit. Third baseman Julio Cedeno was 2-4 with one home run, and left-handed pitcher C. J. Riefenhauser took a no-decision despite surrendering four hits in seven shutout innings while striking out six batters and walking one. (Box Score)
Sunday highlights from Kentucky alumni across MiLB:
- Lexington native and former UK outfielder Collin Cowgill was 3-4 with one double, one RBI and one run scored to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.
- Lexington native Robbie Ross improved to 7-1 on the season after surrendering three runs on seven hits in eight innings while striking out six batters and walking two for high A Myrtle Beach.
- Danville native Patrick Cooper improved to 3-3 on the season after surrendering two runs on three hits in six innings while striking out three batters and walking one for low A West Michigan.
- Former EKU left-handed pitcher Christian Friedrich took a loss despite posting a quality start after surrendering three runs on seven hits in seven and one-third innings while striking out seven batters and walking none for AA Tulsa.
- Louisville native Tyler Kuhn posted his second straight four-hit game for AA Birmingham, this time going 4-5 with one walk, three RBIs and one run scored.
- Paducah native Daniel Webb took a no-decision after surrendering one run on two hits in five innings for low A Lansing.
- Former UofL infielder Chris Dominguez slugged his tenth home run of the season for high A San Jose.
- Former UK outfielder Sawyer Carroll slugged his eighth home run of the season for AA San Antonio.
- Louisville native and former UofL infielder Adam Duvall was 2-4 with one double, one triple and one RBI for low A Augusta.
