Former University of Kentucky pitching star Alex Meyer, a first round choice of the Washington Nationals in 2011, will return to Lexington this weekend as a member of the class A Hagerstown Suns. The Suns take on the Lexington Legends in a four-game series beginning Thursday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Meyer is scheduled to start Friday night’s game for Hagerstown. The Legends will counter with Nick Tropeano, who has twice been named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week in 2012. Game time at Whitaker Bank Ballpark is 7:05 p.m.
As a junior at UK in 2011, Meyer, a 6-foot-9 right-hander, led the Southeastern Conference with 110 strikeouts.
