The three Kentucky Minor League Baseball teams combined for a 1-2 record Tuesday, but one former Lexington standout homered to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. You can see those stories and more below in the daily BluGrass Baseball MiLB roundup:
The Lexington Legends ended a 4-3 road trip with a 2-1 win versus Asheville. Left-handed pitcher Luis Cruz surrendered one unearned run on four hits in six innings while striking out five batters and walking one to earn his second win of the season. Former Eastern High School right-handed pitcher Jason Chowning surrendered one hit in a scoreless ninth inning for his fifth save. At the plate, third baseman John Hinson was 2-4 with one run scored, and catcher Roberto Pena was 2-4. (Box Score)
Lake County scored three runs in the eighth inning to send the Bowling Green Hot Rods to a 4-3 loss. Right fielder Drew Vettleson was 3-5 with one double and one run scored, and designated hitter Jeff Malm was 2-4 with one triple and one RBI. Left-handed pitcher Felipe Rivero had to settle for a no-decision despite surrendering one run on four hits in five innings while striking out five batters and walking three. Norfolk scored six runs in the eighth inning to blow open a one-run game and send the Louisville Bats to an 11-4 loss. Every Louisville batter tallied at least one hit in the game, and third baseman Mike Costanzo was 2-4 with two doubles, two RBI and one run scored. Right-handed pitcher Sean Gallagher was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs on five hits in five innings while striking out four batters and walking four. (Box Score)
Former Henry Clay High School and UK outfielder Collin Cowgill was 2-5 with one home run, one RBI and two runs scored for AAA Sacramento. The performance extended Cowgill’s current hitting streak to 10 games.
Former UK left-handed pitcher Chris Rusin earned his third win of the season after surrendering one run on three hits in six innings while striking out five batters and walking two in a start for AAA Iowa.
Former UK left-handed pitcher James Paxton was charged with his first loss of the season after surrendering two runs on four hits in six innings while striking out seven batters and walking three in a start for AA Jackson.
Former Lexington Catholic High School outfielder Ben Revere was 2-4 with one walk for AAA Rochester.
Former UK infielder Chris Bisson was 2-4 with one double and one run scored for high A Lake Elsinore.
Former UK left-handed pitcher Andrew Albers did not receive a decision after surrendering three runs on nine hits in five innings while striking out three batters and walking one in a start for AA New Britain.
