The two active Kentucky Minor League Baseball team were 1-1 on Thursday, and several 2012 draftees posted their first professional hits. You can see those stories and more below in the daily BluGrass Baseball MiLB roundup:
The Lexington Legends opened the second half of the season with a 9-4 loss at West Virginia. Legends left fielder Jordan Scott was 2-5 with one run scored, third baseman Matt Duffy was 2-4 with one RBI and catcher Roberto Pena was 2-4 with one double and two RBI. Designated hitter Brandon Meredith slugged his second home run of the season. Left-handed pitcher Luis Cruz was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs, four of which were earned, on six hits in five and one-third innings while striking out six batters and walking none. The Louisville Bats extended their season-long winning streak to four games with an 11-6 win versus Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Bats second baseman Cody Puckett was 3-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and one walk, and shortstop Paul Janish was 2-2 with one home run, one double, two RBI, two runs scored and three walks. Right fielder Bill Rhinehart slugged his seventh home run of the season. Right-handed pitcher Tim Gustafson earned his third win of the season after surrendering three runs, one of which was earned, on five hits in five innings while striking out two batters and walking four. Former Male High School and UofL catcher Jeff Arnold was 3-4 with two RBI and one run scored for low A Augusta.
Former Pleasure Ridge Park High School infielder Zack Cox was 2-3 with one double, two RBI, two runs scored and two walks for AAA Memphis.
Former UK infielder Chris Bisson was 2-3 with two runs scored, one walk and three stolen bases for high A Lake Elsinore.
Former Henry Clay High School, Morehead State and UK outfielder Cameron Flynn was 2-4 with one run scored for short-season Jamestown. The hits were the first of Flynn’s professional career.
Forme UK catcher and first baseman Luke Maile was 2-5 with one double, two RBI and one run scored for short-season Hudson Valley.
Former Madison Central High School and UK outfielder Keenan Wiley was 2-5 with one run scored for AA Mississippi.
Former UK outfielder Brian Adams recorded his first professional hit, a solo home run, for short-season Eugene.
Former UK first baseman Ryan Strieby slugged his 12th home run of the season for AAA Toledo.
Former Union College left-handed pitcher Chris Fern made his professional debut with one scoreless inning of relief for the rookie-level AZL Giants.
Former UofL right-handed pitcher B. J. Rosenberg earned his third win of the season with one and one-third scoreless innings of relief for AAA Lehigh Valley.
Former UofL right-handed pitcher Neil Holland earned his fourth win of the season with two and one-third scoreless innings of relief for high A Potomac.
