MiLB roundup: Wunderlich posts three hits

The three Kentucky Minor League Baseball teams combined for a 1-2 record Saturday, but two former Bluegrass stars posted three-hit games for their respective MiLB teams. You can see those stories and more below in the daily BluGrass Baseball MiLB roundup:

 

The Lexington Legends’ losing streak hit five games with a 9-6 loss to Hagerstown. Shortstop Nolan Fontanawas 3-5 with one double and two runs scored, third baseman Matt Duffy was 2-5 with one double, three RBI and one run scored and outfielder Justin Gominsky was 2-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Right-handed pitcher Nathan Pettus was charged with the loss after surrendering one run on two hits in two innings pitched. (Box Score)

 

The Bowling Green Hot Rods opened a three-game series versus Lake County with a 4-2 win. Hot Rods second baseman Ryan Brett was 2-4 with one RBI, and shortstop Jake Hager was 2-4 with one home run, one double, one RBI and two runs scored. Left-handed pitcher Ryan Carpenter earned his eighth win after surrendering one hit in six shutout innings while striking out two batters and walking two. (Box Score)

 

The Louisville Bats were shutout for the second consecutive game in a 2-0 loss to Toledo. The Bats totaled just three hits, none of which were for extra bases. Right-handed pitcher Pedro Villarreal posted a quality start but was still charged with a loss after surrendering one run on four hits in six innings while striking out eight batters and walking two. Former UofL infielder Phil Wunderlich was 3-4 with two doubles and three RBI for high A Charlotte.

 

Former Pleasure Ridge Park High School infielder Zach Osborne was 3-5 with one RBI and one run scored for short-season Tri-City. The performances was Osborne’s second consecutive three-hit game.

 

Former UK outfielder Sawyer Carroll was 2-3 with one home run, one double, one RBI and one run scored for AAA Tucson.

 

Former UK infielder Neiko Johnson reached base five times with a single and four walks, scored two runs and stole one base for short-season Tri-City.

 

Former Butler High School and UofL infielder Adam Duvall was 2-5 with one triple and three RBI for high A San Jose.

 

Former Trinity High School infielder Tyler Kuhn was 2-5 with one RBI and two runs scored for AAA Charlotte.

 

Former UofL infielder Ryan Wright slugged his third home run of the season for low A Dayton.

 

Former Morehead State catcher Taylor Davis slugged his second home run of the season for high A Daytona.

 

Former UofL right-handed pitcher Neil Holland was promoted to AAA Syracuse where he pitched a scoreless inning of relief in his debut.
