When former Pleasure Ridge Park High School infielder Zack Cox returns from the disabled list, he will do so for a new organization.

On Tuesday, the St. Louis Cardinals traded Cox to the Miami Marlins for reliever Edward Mujica. Cox was batting .254 with nine home runs, 30 RBI and 27 runs scored in 84 games for AAA Memphis before going on the disabled list on July 22 with a hamstring injury.

Cox, the 2008 Mr. Kentucky Baseball, was the Cardinals’ first-round pick in 2010 out of the University of Arkansas. Prior to the 2012 season, Baseball America ranked him as the No. 4 prospect in the Cardinals’ organization. Cox struggled early in the season for AAA Memphis, batting .195 in April and .221 in May, but he rebounded for a .377 average in June and .258 average in July.

The Marlins announced in a news release Cox is expected to be assigned to AA Jacksonville.
