Three Kentucky college or high school athletes took part in day five action from the London Olympics. You can see a rundown of their performances below:
Former Saint Xavier High School swimmer Clark Burckle finished sixth in the men’s 200-meter breaststroke final. Burckle finished the race in 2:09.25, slightly slower than his personal-best time from the semifinal. The race was Burckle’s last event in the 2012 games.
UofL swimmer Pedro Oliveira, competing for Portugal, finished second in his qualifying heat but 20th overall in the men’s 200-meter backstroke. His time of 1:58.83 was .61 seconds shy of qualifying for the semifinals. The race was Oliveira’s final event of the 2012 games.
Former UofL basketball player Angel McCoughtry led the U. S. women’s team in scoring for the second time in three games with 18 points in the team’s 89-58 win versus Turkey. McCoughtry added seven rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots. She was 4-4 from the field and 10-11 from the free-throw line. The women’s team returns to action Friday against the Czech Republic at 5:15 p.m. EST.
