The two active Kentucky Minor League Baseball teams combined for a 1-1 record Sunday, and one of the state’s best pitching prospects earned a win in the AA Texas League. You can see those stories and more below in the daily BluGrass Baseball MiLB roundup:
A four-hit performance from former WKU catcher Matt Rice was not enough for the Bowling Green Hot Rods to avoid a 6-5 loss to South Bend. Rice was 4-5 with one triple, one double and one run scored, and right fielder Drew Vettleson was 3-5 with one home run, two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Hot Rods shortstop Jake Hager also slugged his eighth home run of the season. Left-handed reliever Jacob Partridge was charged with a loss after surrendering one run on two hits in three innings. The Louisville Bats held off a late rally from Columbus to preserve a 9-8 win. Bats right fielder Denis Phipps was 3-3 with two home runs, six RBI, two runs scored and one walk, and second baseman Chris Valaika was 3-5 with one double and two runs scored. Right-handed pitcher Sean Gallagher earned his 10th win of the season after surrendering four runs on five hits in five innings, and right-handed reliever J. J. Hoover pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 13th save. (Box Score)

Former Lexington Catholic High School left-handed pitcher Nick Maronde earned his fifth win of the season after surrendering two runs on eight hits in six innings while striking out three batters and walking none in a start for AA Arkansas.
Former UK outfielder Sawyer Carroll was 3-3 with one double and two runs scored for AAA Tucson.
Former Butler High School and UofL infielder Adam Duvall was 2-3 with one home run, one double, one RBI, three runs scored and one walk for high A San Jose.
Former UofL infielder Ryan Wright was 2-4 with one home run, one double, two RBI and two runs scored for low A Dayton.
Former Butler High School infielder Seth Bynum was 2-4 with one home run, one double, three RBI and two runs scored for AA Harrisburg.
Former Pleasure Ridge Park High School infielder Zack Cox was 2-3 with one double, one RBI, two runs scored and two walks for AA Jacksonville.
Former Beechwood High School and Campbellsville infielder Chris Curley was 2-3 with one triple, one run scored and two stolen bases for low A Kannapolis.
Former Hancock County High School and WKU infielder Wade Gaynor was 2-4 with one run scored and one walk for high A Lakeland.
Former UofL right-handed pitcher Tony Zych earned his fifth win of the season with a scoreless inning for AA Tennessee.
