MiLB roundup: Gaynor homers in playoffs

Full-season Minor League Baseball playoffs began Wednesday with one Kentucky MiLB team still in action. A host of the state’s high school and college alumni are also participating in postseason play. You can see a rundown of their highlights below in the daily BluGrass Baseball MiLB roundup:

 

The Bowling Green Hot Rods pounded out 12 hits but could not avoid a Midwest League playoffs opening-game 5-4 loss to Lake County. Hot Rods right fielder Drew Vettleson was 3-5 with one run scored, and designated hitter Cameron Seitzer was 2-5 with one double and three RBI. Right-handed pitcher Parker Markel was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs on nine hits in two and two-thirds innings. (Box Score)

 

Former Hancock County High School and WKU infielder Wade Gaynor was 2-4 with one home run, one RBI and one run scored for high A Lakeland in the Florida State League playoffs.

 

Former UK third baseman Thomas McCarthy was 2-5 with one RBI and one run scored for rookie-level Great Falls.

 

Former Butler High School right-handed pitcher Keith Butler earned his first postseason save with a scoreless inning of relief for AA Springfield in the Texas League playoffs. Butler saved 25 games during the regular season.

 

Former Ballard High School right-handed pitcher James Jones earned a hold with a scoreless inning of relief for low A Fort Wayne in the Midwest League playoffs.

 

Former UK left-handed pitcher Alex Phillips surrendered one hit in two scoreless innings while striking out two batters and walking none in a relief appearance for short-season Connecticut.

 

Former UK right-handed pitcher Tim Peterson surrendered one run on one hit in two and one-third innings while striking out three batters and walking none in a relief appearance for short-season Brooklyn.
