Greek Sing, hosted by the sisters of the Chi Omega sorority and the brothers of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, is an annual charity event benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Kentucky. The event was held on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Memorial Coliseum.

The dance competition is one of UK’s most popular events and is repeatedly voted as the “Best Greek Event on Campus” by UK students. Students from UK sororities and fraternities participate in this competition by dancing in hopes of winning money for their philanthropy. Last year, the event raised about $120,000 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Kentucky.

Kristin Holt, a senior and a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, was the Greek Sing chair for her sorority last year. During Holt’s position, the Tri Delt’s won the overall champion award. This year, the Tri Delt’s won overall champions for the third consecutive year.

“I feel like we have to try extra hard to prove we deserve to win,” Holt said.

Holt felt she would be a great asset to help her sorority win Greek Sing because she would often times think of themes the summer before Greek Sing would even start. Holt also said she enjoys practicing for Greek Sing because she gets to know all the new members of the sorority.

“(Greek Sing) is a fun time to get everybody together and work as a team,” Holt said.

For the Tri Delts, not every member is required to dance. The seniors have a choice to dance or not, but Holt said seniors usually all want to participate. Holt also said that people who don’t like to dance could hold props during the performance.

“I feel like people see us as the chapter to beat, but at the same time people didn’t expect us to win the third year in row,” Holt said.

Zach Rabold, a senior and a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity on campus, has been the Greek Sing chair both years that they have been involved with Greek Sing. Before becoming the Greek Sing chair, Rabold was the Philanthropy chair for his fraternity.

“It’s really exciting to be a part of such a great tradition on campus,” Rabold said. “This year we had the highest number of participants in Greek Sing with 24 sororities and fraternities.”
