‘Skatepark for a Day’ interactive event aims
to bring skaters and the community together

On Sunday, February 26, the not-for-profit group Friends for Skateparks will present “Skatepark for a Day,” a fundraiser to directly benefit the expansion of local skateboarding facilities.

Held from noon to 9 p.m. at Land of Tomorrow Gallery, 527 E. Third St., the event will feature a temporary indoor skate park to demonstrate that small skate obstacles could be built at a relatively low cost. A donation of $5, which will go to the not-for profit, is suggested.

From noon to 2 p.m., the event will be geared toward younger beginner-level skaters. At 7 p.m., a “Game of Skate” will take place — the cost for a team of three will be $30.

The space will allow for attendees to observe the skaters enjoy other activities as well — which include an art exhibit of skate-related art from local artists and skateboarders; live DJ sets from WRFL DJs; hip-hop sets from local artists Sheisty Khrist and Just Me; free food; fun activities for kids of all ages; and a silent auction and raffle.

Artists to be exhibited at the event include Landon Antonetti, Reid Small, Richie Wireman, Jon Fredrickson, Jonathan Ware, Skylar Gibbons, Gordon Gildersleeve and more.

Formed in 2012, Friends for Skateparks is a volunteer group comprised of representatives from LFUCG, the construction industry, skate shop owners, skateboarders and their parents and friends, with the common interest of growing and expanding Lexington’s action sports community.
