Hats Off Day at Horse Park salutes state’s horse industry with numerous free events

Hats Off to Kentucky’s Horse Industry Day will celebrate and promote the state’s horse industry on Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Kentucky Horse Park. This event includes both live and silent auctions, grand prix show jumping, children’s activities, free pony rides, educational booths, interactive equine stations and more, all at no cost.

The featured evening entertainment on Hats Off Day is The Rood and Riddle $50,000 Kentucky Grand Prix, a show jumping competition where top international mounts and riders will compete for the top prize. Opening ceremonies for the Kentucky Grand Prix begin at 7 p.m. in the Rolex Stadium. Spectator options include a catered meal in the sponsors’ tent or free grandstand seating. To purchase sponsor tent seating or for more information, please contact Alex Riddle at 859-233-0371 or ariddle@roodandriddle.com.

For the first time, every live auction item and select silent auction items are available through proxy bidding for those who cannot attend in person. To submit a proxy bid, fill out the proxy bid sheet and return it to LaTonna Wilson at lwilson@roodandriddle.com or fax to her attention at 859-255-5367 by Aug. 3 at 5 p.m. The sheet and list of items available through proxy bidding can be found here.

All proceeds from the auctions will benefit two charities: The Kentucky Equine Humane Center and The Kentucky Horse Park Foundation.

The Kentucky Equine Humane Center works to ensure humane treatment and shelter to all breeds of unwanted horses and to educate the public on responsible equine ownership. The Kentucky Horse Park Foundation provides funding to “expand and enhance” the Horse Park through facility improvements and other projects, such as special exhibits at the International Museum of the Horse.
