Keeneland will kick off the 2012 sale year on Monday with its January Horses of All Ages Sale. A total of 1,594 lots have been cataloged for the four-day auction, to be held January 9-12. Sessions begin daily at 10 a.m.
The January Sale has earned a global reputation for its offering of stakes-winning fillies and broodmares in foal to many of the most fashionable stallions.
Broodmares covered by 186 different stallions, among them such leading sires as Colonel John, Curlin, Hard Spun, Street Sense, Unbridled’s Song and Zensational, have been consigned.
Additionally, the sale also is regarded as a strong market for ‘short’ yearlings (weanlings who officially became a year old on Jan. 1). Among the recent graded stakes winners sold as yearlings in January are Grade 1 winners Smiling Tiger, Afleet Express and E Z’s Gentleman; and Grade 2 winners Flashpoint, Joyful Victory and Dancinginherdreams.
This January, yearlings representing 176 stallions will be offered, including top sires Arch, Awesome Again, Bernardini, Broken Vow, Candy Ride, Colonel John, Curlin, More Than Ready, Mr. Greeley, Pulpit, Scat Daddy, Smart Strike and Tiznow.
Horsemen and fans can follow the sale via live streaming on Keeneland’s website at www.keeneland.com, coupled with updates on Facebook and Twitter.
