Venture Connectors to host Genscape co-founders Sean O’Leary, Sterling Lapinski September 5

On Wednesday, Sept. 5, Venture Connectors will feature Sean O’Leary and Sterling Lapinski, who will share their career journeys as successful data entrepreneurs. The two were co-founders of Genscape Inc., a Louisville-based company that provides proprietary data and intelligence to global energy markets. Under their leadership, Genscape made the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing U.S. companies in 2004 and 2005, and both O’Leary and Lapinski were recognized as Ernst and Young Entrepreneurs of the Year in 2003. They sold the company to Daily Mail AND General Trust in 2006 and went on to found other data-driven companies.

Today, O’Leary is CEO and co-founder of EdjAnalytics, a Louisville-based data science company that builds proprietary tools focused on helping people improve decision-making. In 2016, he was recognized as an Endeavor Entrepreneur. O’Leary is a member of the Bluegrass chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), the University of Louisville College of Business board of advisors and serves on the board of directors for Restorative Justice of Louisville. He holds a bachelor’s in business administration degree in finance and economics from the University of Michigan and is a graduate of the University of Louisville’s first MBA in Entrepreneurship class.

Lapinski is now executive chairman of ClipperData LLC, a leading provider of data and analysis to global commodity markets, and also serves as an advisor or board member for several early-stage businesses. During his time at Genscape, Lapinski was granted more than a dozen domestic and foreign patents. Earlier in his career, he worked in various capacities in trading and risk management, starting in fixed income and moving to energy and commodities. He holds a bachelor of science degree in finance from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Venture Connectors’ monthly luncheons are held on the first Wednesday of the month at the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N. Sixth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the meeting runs from noon-1:15 p.m. Registration is required at www.ventureconnectors.org. Members attend free; associate members pay $30. Guests who register online by noon the day before the lunch pay only $40.
