11th annual Jane Austen Festival to be held this weekend (July 12-14) at Locust Grove in Louisville


The 11th annual Jane Austen Festival will be held this weekend (July 12-14) at Locust Grove in Louisville.

The event is sponsored by the Jane Austen Society of Greater Louisville and will be held at 561 Blankenbaker Lane. Tours of the house will be provided Saturday and Sunday of the festival.

Friday hours are 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. For Saturday and Sunday, hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The event will celebrate “Northanger Abbey: Adventure and Romance Unmasked.”

Dr. Glynis Ridley from the University of Louisville.

The featured speaker is Dr. Glynis Ridley from the University of Louisville. Her lecture topics will be Isabella Thorpe’s Northanger Abbey: Gothic Plots and Possibilities, and Eleanor Tilney’s Northanger Abbey: Histories of England and Empire.

Visitors can shop the Regency Emporium and Shoppes of Meryton, promenade with “Catherine Morland and Mrs. Allen in Bath,” encounter His Majesty’s Royal Navy, and dine and dance the night away at the Masque Ball at The Pendennis Club.

In addition, the event will include the Betsy Bashore Regency Fashion Show, the Gayle Simmons Regency fashion display in the Grand Parlor of 1790s Locust Grove, Punch & Judy, Common Stock Entertainment, Lady Caroline Linnington, Sunday morning church services and much more.

Jane Austen Festival Admission Prices

•Friday, July 12 – Twilight Shopping: $10 per person (online and at the festival), Children under 12 are admitted free with an adult.

•Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14 – One-day pass: $18 per person or $20 per person (at the festival). Children under 12 are admitted free with an adult.

Jane Austen Festival Special Event Ticket Prices

•Four-course Afternoon Tea– $25 per person (plus Festival admission).

•Children’s Tea on Sunday, July 14, 4-5 p.m.- $20 per child (plus Festival admission if over 12 years of age) and $25 per adult attending with children.
