Ambassadors announced for American Cancer Society’s ResearchHERS – Women Fighting Cancer

Last week, the American Cancer Society (ACS) launched ResearcHERS – Women Fighting Cancer at the University Club at the University of Louisville.

ResearcHERS is a new initiative that brings together female leaders and influencers from across Kentucky – known as ambassadors – who will work together to raise funds to support female-led cancer research, serve as role models, and build awareness of the contributions of women in the fight against cancer.

“Your commitment to this movement will sustain women-led cancer research, launch new careers, and inspire a new generation of young women considering careers in science,” said Erica Kellem Beasley, ACS Executive Director, to the crowd this morning.

Leading the campaign are co-chairs Reanna Smith Hamblin, President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau, and Victoria Russell, Chief of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Papa John’s. In addition to the co-chairs, the ResearcHERS – Women Fighting Cancer ambassadors include:

Alyson Anderson, Community Leader, Louisville.
Amanda Beam, Freelance Journalist in Southern Indiana and Louisville.
Kate Caufield, Account Manager, Corporate Relations, at the American Cancer Society, Louisville.
Jasleen Chahal, Program Manager at the University of Kentucky, Lexington.
Melissa Dodson, Administrative Assistant to the Plant Manager at Logan Aluminum, Russellville.
Fata Dzeko, Director of Operations at Lacuna Health, Louisville. She is also a member of the American Cancer Society’s Board.
Krista Foster, Vice President of Human Resources at Long John Silver’s, Louisville.
Dawne Gee, News Anchor, WAVE 3 News, Louisville.
Brandi Harless, Mayor of the City of Paducah.
Amanda Herndon, Vice President, SBA Lending Specialist, at Busey Bank, Louisville.

Ambassadors commit to raising at least $2,500 each from May 1-31.

The launch event featured a panel of current and past ACS-funded researchers from the University of Louisville who shared the critical need for continued funding of female researchers. Panelists included Dr. Tara Schapmire, Dr. Karen Kayser and Georgia Anderson.
