Blue Raider women sweep first-place voting in NAIA poll; Lindsey men check in at No. 9

The Lindsey Wilson women’s soccer program is the top-ranked team in the country to start the 2015 season, according to the NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll released by the national office.
 

The defending national champion Blue Raiders garnered 498 total voting points and all 18 first-place votes.
 

It marks the fifth time in program history Lindsey Wilson has earned the top spot in the preseason poll and it is the fourth straight season the Blue Raiders have begun the year ranked in the nation’s top five.
 

Lindsey Wilson has now been ranked in an-NAIA best 160-consecutive polls dating back to the 1999 season, including 131-straight mentions in the top 10. The 48 overall No. 1 rankings are also the most in NAIA history.
 

Fellow Mid-South Conference member Cumberland (Tenn.) is ranked shortly behind the Blue Raiders at No. 4.
 

National runner-up Northwestern Ohio is second with 482 points, Keiser (Fla.) (formally Northwood) is third with 466 points and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) completes the top five with 427 points.
 

Of the teams ranked in the preseason top-25 poll, Lindsey Wilson is scheduled to face six in the top; 10 and nine currently in the top 25.

The Blue Raiders open the 2015 season on Saturday night as they host Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) at 7 p.m. at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. Prior to the game, the 2014 National Championship banner will be unveiled.

The NAIA announced its men’s soccer preseason Top 25 Coaches’ Poll and the Blue Raiders start the season ranked ninth in the country.
 

The men’s soccer team earned a total of 351 points in the preseason polls and moved up three spots from the end of last season. This is the Blue Raiders 95th straight appearance in the polls, which is the longest active streak in the NAIA.
 

Defending national champions, Davenport (Mich.), grabbed all 17 first-place votes and hangs on to the No. 1 ranking.
 

Rounding out the top five are, No. 2 Northwestern Ohio, No. 3 Marymount (Calif.), No. 4 Grand View (Iowa) and No. 5 Rio Grande (Ohio).
 

Lindsey Wilson will face six opponents ranked in the top-25 or receiving votes in the preseason poll, highlighted by matches against; No. 2 Northwestern Ohio (Aug. 29), No. 22 Bethel (Tenn.) (Sept. 13) and No. 5 Rio Grande (Sept. 26). All three matches are slated to be on the road.
 

The Blue Raiders open their 2015 campaign at home on Wednesday night as they face Marygrove (Mich.) at 7 p.m.
