Bluegrass Community and Technical College students get suited up for upcoming internships

Five students from Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) spent an afternoon getting fitted for brand new suits at Men’s Warehouse in preparation for upcoming internships.

Abraham Hamilton, Abraham Collum, Jordan Duncan, Brian Lewis and Allen Crow are outstanding members of the BCTC program A Few Good Men (FGM). This program is designed to empower men of color academically, personally and professionally, while increasing leadership skills and providing a supportive environment.

During the semester, FGM members meet for presentations by community leaders and BCTC staff and faculty. In addition, these students are invited to community events, build strong relationships with peers, receive academic support and work with mentors.

This spring, BCTC leadership and Commerce Lexington is working with a FGM on an internship program where students will be assigned to community partners for internships in their field of interest. The goal is to help them gain experience and make connections that will move them into their careers.

Crow is interested in acting and film production; Collum wants to “help people,” so he is working toward a career in social work. Duncan and Lewis are interested in business.

Each of the young men expressed excitement about their new suits and internship opportunities. “Wearing this suit makes me feel confident and ready to represent BCTC,” said Hamilton. “When you put on a good suit you feel good,” Lewis said, “and when you feel good you can accomplish anything.”
