Book Benches, works of art celebrating Ky authors, moving from streets of Lex to auction block

The Book Benches that have graced the streets of Lexington will soon be auctioned off at the Book Benches Live Auction and Gala Celebration on November 17 at The Livery.

The Book Benches are fabulous works of art and a celebration of Kentucky authors.

They are a collaborative project of Arts Connect, LexArts and the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning. They were modeled after Horse Mania and are 35 book shaped functional benches, each themed around different works by Kentucky authors.

Kentucky artists have illustrated the benches and they have been on display throughout the summer in Lexington.

Proceeds from the event — and the auction of the benches — will support the missions of the three collaborating organizations.

The event will be at 6 p.m. (auction at 7 p.m.) at The Livery, 238 E. Main, on Nov. 17. Tickets are $100 per person for heavy hors d’oeuvres and open bar. For tickets, click here.
