The exhibit is free and open to the public, including the reception on Friday, Sept. 18 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
There have been many artists working in the studio over the years, but this exhibit features six of Humphress’ current students. Lois Leake of Lebanon and Lana Carol Houk of Green County, are painters working in acrylic.
Cheryl Magers of Campbellsville works primarily in oil paints.
Gaubrille and Sila Humphress, grandchildren of Humphress, along with Mary Miller of Campbellsville, are painting in watercolors.
“I believe that all students will learn more and achieve more if they are working in the medium and style that speaks to them. With an area in art, I was trained in many media so I allow my students to decide the direction of their work. I encourage creativity and experimentation in exploring higher levels of achievement,” Humphress said.
Humphress graduated from Campbellsville University in 1970 and taught in Marion County and Campbellsville High School. She completed her Master’s in Art Education at Western Kentucky University and then taught at Taylor County Middle School until her retirement in 2007. Humphress began teaching private art lessons around 2005.
Since 2012, Humphress has been a member of Kentucky Watercolor Society and serves as education director. She is also a member of Indiana Plein Art Painters, Artist Guild in the Barrens and Central Kentucky Artist Guild.
