Central Kentucky Educational Cooperative names two from Leestown Outstanding Educators

The Central Kentucky Educational Cooperative has tapped Sara Hudson and Sarah Spurlock as Outstanding Educators because of their strong teamwork at Leestown Middle School.

They accepted their awards at a May CKEC luncheon.

Spurlock teaches special education, and Hudson is her general education partner in their co-taught math class. They have participated in the Co-Teaching for Gap Closure initiative for several years.

As she has developed her knowledge of math content, Spurlock has incorporated multiple models of co-teaching in their classrooms. Meanwhile, Hudson has learned more about students with special needs.

The two instructors often practice small-group parallel teaching or station teaching to meet students’ needs more effectively. They also present differentiated activities and use data effectively, according to Amanda Dennis, interim director of Special Education in Fayette County Public Schools.

“They never consider any assessment summative – even end-of-unit assessments. They continue to revisit content often until students master the content, which happens regularly,” Dennis said.
