Council on Postsecondary Education to sponsor free workshop for educators on assignment design

The Council on Postsecondary Education is sponsoring a free faculty workshop aimed at improving student learning in the area of written communication, an essential skill needed for today’s workforce.

The workshop, which focuses on assignment design, will be held Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST at the University of Louisville Shelby Campus.

“We are very pleased to sponsor this workshop for faculty, who are at the forefront of Kentucky’s academic quality efforts,” said Aaron Thompson, CPE’s executive vice president and chief academic officer.

“Assignments are powerful teaching tools and can position students for better learning outcomes in class, which will help them build the skills needed to contribute at higher levels in the workforce,” he added.

Following the workshop, the goal is for each campus team to go back to their institution and continue the professional learning opportunities for others.

Dr. Bonnie Orcutt, professor of economics and an assessment fellow at Worcester State University in Massachusetts, will be the facilitator.

Funds for the workshop are provided by the Council’s Faculty Collaborative grant from the Association of American Colleges and Universities.
