Eastern Kentucky University junior Tre King has been voted the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league announced on Monday.

Tre King

King did a lot of scoring, and a little bit of everything else, in EKU’s 93-85 overtime win at Eastern Illinois on Saturday night. He finished with a game-high 24 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.

The 6-9 forward from Lexington shot 9-of-17 from the field (53 percent) and 3-of-5 from deep (60 percent) to lead EKU to its seventh consecutive victory. The Colonels (12-2, 6-1 OVC) are now off to their best start since 1946-47.

King currently ranks second in the OVC in both scoring (17.6 points per game) and rebounding (8.0 rebounds per game).

He shared this week’s OVC honor with Belmont guard Ben Sheppard.

The Colonels return home to host UT Martin (Thursday) and Southeast Missouri (Saturday) this week.

LINDSEY WILSON WOMEN UPSET THOMAS MORE: Hailey Ison enjoyed a record-setting afternoon on Monday as the Lindsey Wilson women’s basketball team upset previously unbeaten and fourth-ranked Thomas More at Biggers Sports Center.

Ison finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds — both career-high numbers — as 17th-ranked Lindsey Wilson pulled away for a 73-63 win in a battle of teams ranked in the NAIA national poll. Bree Glover also collected a double-double with 16 boards and 14 points for the Blue Raiders, who improved to 12-1 overall, 7-1 in the Mid-South Conference.

Zoie Barth led Thomas More (15-1 overall, 10-1 Mid-South Conference) with 16 points, while Courtney Hurst added 15 points. Taylor Clos finished with 12 points for Thomas More, which is ranked No. 4 nationally in the NAIA poll.
