Eye Health: Not happy with your eyelashes? Seven natural ways to help lengthen them

My sons have the longest, thickest eyelashes and I’m not sure they fully appreciate how much their lashes accentuate their eyes. How do you feel about your lashes? A lot of women, in particular, don’t love theirs. Don’t give up, though, there are natural ways to enhance lashes.

Here are seven tips:
1. A healthy diet: A nutritious diet is a prerequisite to grow your hair follicles. Amino acids are important to grow healthy hair, so include foods in your diet that consist of protein including milk, chicken, lean meat and egg whites. Calcium, potassium and magnesium are some of the other nutrients important for eyelash growth.
2. Consume biotin: Biotin is a water-soluble B vitamin that stimulates natural hair growth. Also known as vitamin H, rich sources of biotin include bananas, pecans, almonds, whole grains and egg yolks.
3. Include antioxidants: Deficiency of these vitamins results in split ends, lash breakages and eyelashes falling out due to dry hair. Antioxidants prevent the negative impact of free radicals on your lashes, which helps promote healthy hair growth. Citrus fruits, avocados and veggies are good sources of antioxidants.
4. Use oils: Olive oil is great to maintain healthy skin as well as hair. Many women who have sparse eyelashes use castor oil and olive oil at the roots of their lashes. Emu oil also conditions the eyelashes by stimulating their growth. To apply, take two cotton swabs and put the oil on them, then rub on your eyelids.
5. Brush–up: Brushing your hair helps grow it longer. Use a specific brush for your eyelashes; you can find it in department stores. Brush lashes twice a day without applying mascara.
6. Remove your make-up: Sleeping in mascara can make eyelashes brittle and weak. Be sure to remove make-up before going to bed.
7. Life a healthy life: You should consider drinking around eight glasses of water each day to get healthy skin, eyelashes and hair. Ensure you have a diet full of minerals, vitamins and enough fats. And, strive for good sleep.
