FCPS Superintendent Search: Board seeks community, employee and family opinions

Below you will find the text of a message from Fayette County Board of Education Chairman John Price that was shared with families, employees and community members related to the search for the next Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent.

The most pressing task facing the Fayette County Board of Education, but one which we cannot do without your assistance and direction, is selecting the best possible leader for the Fayette County Public Schools.
Your board team recognizes that before we can launch a search for the next Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent, we need to hear from you. I’m excited to share that we will soon begin a broad-based effort to gather input from all segments of our community.
We want to hear from every voice about the strengths and challenges we face in the Fayette County Public Schools and the characteristics we need in our next leader in order to build on those strengths and address our challenges.
Members of the board of education met with representatives from K12 Insight, a public engagement firm, to discuss the best way to gather feedback from students, families, employees and all community members. This work is included in our current contract and will not cost any additional money.
In order to ensure that all stakeholders have a voice in this effort, we will offer a variety of ways for people to participate. The district will sponsor several public listening sessions, but we will also invite any interested group to conduct their own discussions and submit their responses. K12 Insight will work with district leaders to establish a set of questions to guide the conversations, and any interested organization can have someone trained to facilitate a session.
The questions and structure at each forum will be the same, regardless of where they happen. By having a common set of questions and a common reporting tool, we can ensure that every opinion receives equal consideration.
We want to give everyone an opportunity to participate in the manner which is most comfortable for them, so in addition to focus groups, we will offer surveys both online and on paper. All feedback and submissions will be gathered and analyzed independently by K12 Insight. That report will be shared publicly and used to inform the board’s search for our next schools’ chief.
Organizational details for this effort will be completed in the next two weeks so that facilitators for the sessions can be trained during the first two weeks of February and the window for community conversations can be open during the last two weeks of February.
If you are interested in hosting a group to share information with the board, please contact Family and Community Engagement Liaison Jessica Berry at 381-4283 or jessica.berry2@fayette.kyschools.us.
Please help us share this message with friends, community members and neighbors so that everyone knows they are welcome and that we sincerely want their input. We look forward to hearing from you so that we can make the best decision for all of our students.
