While attending Middle Tennessee, Caldwell competed in two sports – football and baseball. His past experience includes internships with the athletic departments at Lexington Catholic High School and MTSU as well as working as a graduate assistant/wide receiver coach at Bethel University. In addition, he has several years of experience as a baseball coach working with high school and club athletes.

“With Mr. Caldwell’s experience as a two-sport Division I athlete and holding a master’s degree in Sports Administration, we are excited to have him join the Highlands athletic team,” said Matthew Bertasso, Highlands High School principal. “He brings an array of experience that will help lead our teams and athletes to the next level.”

“I’m extremely honored and privileged to be the new athletic director at Highlands High School,” said Caldwell. “Highlands has one of the most storied athletic programs in Kentucky history and is one of the top schools academically. I’m very grateful for this opportunity that my family and I have been given and can’t wait to begin working with this already amazing athletic program.”

Born and raised in Lexington, Caldwell attended Lexington Catholic, where he lettered five years in baseball, four years in football, and one season in basketball. He was a three-year starter and part of the football team that won Middle Tennessee’s first bowl game – the New Orleans Bowl.

Caldwell and his wife Sara have a daughter Mila Grace, who is seven.

Caldwell will begin serving as the Highlands athletic director on July 1.
