Former Lindsey Wilson baseball standout Mitchell Osnowitz has signed a free agent contract with the Gulf Coast League Braves, a minor-league affiliate of the Atlanta Braves based in Orlando, Fla.

The 6-foot-5 Bloomington, Ill., native joins the Braves in rookie ball of the 16-team Gulf Coast League. The Braves compete in the Northeast Division of the GCL along with affiliates of the Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees.

In two seasons at Lindsey Wilson, Osnowitz appeared in 118 games recording 133 hits including 18 home runs and 77 runs batted in. He tallied 219 total bases while holding a .344 batting average.

During his senior season, Osnowitz led the team in batting average (.375), hits (72), doubles (13), home runs (13) and RBIs (45). His 13 home runs were the seventh most in the NAIA in 2014. Osnowitz also holds a 2-0 pitching record in seven appearances for the Blue Raiders.

Twice Osnowitz earned All Mid-South Conference honors and Academic All-MSC honors. He became the first Blue Raider since 2000 to be named to the NAIA All-American team, picking up second team honors following his senior season. Osnowitz also earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors and was named to the Capital One Academic All-America College Division Baseball First Team.

“Mitchell has worked very hard to demonstrate great work ethic and patience and we’re very excited that he is getting his chance in a great organization,” said Lindsey Wilson head baseball coach Jonathan Burton. “He will be a great fit and leader in the clubhouse and I have no doubt he will represent our program in a professional manner.”
