Four Lexington architecture firms competing in 2014 Design Slam; local groups to benefit

Watch teams from Lexington architecture firms put together compelling designs for the corner of High and Broadway streets, catty-corner to Rupp Arena, at the 2014 Design Slam. This event is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, from 6-8 pm at West Sixth Brewing.

Admission to the event is $10 and includes a custom pint glass, an AIA EKC COTE sketchbook, and a vote for your favorite design. Additional votes may be purchased for $1 each. The teams competing in this year’s Design Slam are: EOP Architects, JRA Architects, Ross Tarrant Architects and Sherman Carter Barnhart.

Each team has one hour to complete their design using any digital media to create, render, or otherwise illustrate their work. Their computer screens will be projected on to large screens, allowing attendees to view their work live from start to finish. While the teams craft, modify and improve their designs, the crowd watches and cheers on the teams. Mick Jeffries of WRFL will engage the audience, while patrons vote for their favorites.

At the end of the hour, each team will present their designs to the crowd. The team with the most votes at the end of the voting period wins the Design Slam.

Proceeds of the 2014 Design Slam benefit Lexington Habitat for Humanity, Fayette Alliance and AIA East Kentucky.
