Historic Stonereath Farm in Parissold to German thoroughbred breeder

Historic Stonereath Farm, a 252-acre thoroughbred farm on 460 near Paris, has been sold to German breeder, Dr. Christoph Berglar, whose son, Peter, will manage a commercial breeding operation there. The new entity will be Stonereath Stud.

The purchase price was a little more than $4.2 million.

The farm was owned by Darrell and Lendy Brown, who have a long and distinguished involvement in the thoroughbred industry. Their farm was best known as the home of multiple graded stakes producing mare Best in Show.  She was a stakes winner who went on to become the dame of four graded stakes winners, three of them bred by the Browns, including dual grade I winner, Blush With Pride (by Blushing Groom).

The Browns also bred such graded stakes winners as Broadway Flyer, Greek Costume, Careless Heiress and Kentucky Caper.

Tom Biederman of Biederman Real Estate and Auctioneers brokered the purchase.

Biderman said the Browns will stay connected to the industry.  They still have four mares, which have been boarded at another local farm when they started cutting back several years ago, and interests in other horses.

The farm had been on the market for a little more than a year.
